Pride Is a Bad Excuse

What convinced me to join Facebook was discovering my main motive to abstain was pride. I liked to talk about how I had not succumbed to the temptation to join the crowd, but I really wanted to join. If I really wasn't interested, I wouldn't have been so persistent in bringing it up. Pride is a stupid reason to stay away from something.

Now, if I quit, I might actually have valid reasons. Alright, this is the Last time you will read about Facebook on this blog. You have my word on this, for now, for what it is worth.

  1. If the Lord has shown you that pride is your motive, then I am happy that your are acting against this. But for me, it isn't because I have a desire to join but it is because I really don't have a desire to join facebook. It isn't because I have a lack of desire to be on the internet altogether but a main reason for me to abstain because I am already weak to spend too much time on the internet. I really like this quote from Spurgeon, "Watch constantly against those things which are thought to be no temptations. The most poisonous serpents are found where the sweetest flowers grow. Cleopatra was poisoned by an asp that was brought to her in a basket of fair flowers"

  2. Thanks for commenting Tina. I like the quote (what do you expect from Spurgeon). My motives are personal (and to be honest, they involve a certain person, too). Although, I think if I was really disinterested in Facebook, I would have just ignored it. I found that I wasn't ignoring it, I was passionately against it--quite inconsistent. I do pray that the Lord helps me to set aside every weight that hinders the race of holiness, including pride and distracting technology.
