Grammar Isn't the Point, Truth Should Be

For some time I have lamented the slow but sure loss of "his" as the generic, singular personal pronoun (e.g., someone might be reading this on his computer). I despised using grammar to be politically correct. Moreover, I was convinced using "his" was grammatically rational, and in some way expressed a foundational reality of the universe. Now all this seems silly.

One doesn't need "his" to function as the generic, singular personal pronoun to convincingly express a Biblical understanding of gender. In fact holding out for principle's sake won't convince anyone of anything, it will just look silly. Using grammar to make a statement will only likely hinder the statement we should make. And we should be saying things about gender, headship, and God's design for men and women, but we should be saying these things with words and sentences and arguments, not grammar.
