For Example, describing an oak tree:
"Their father said if they could see as God can, in geological time, they would see it leap out of the ground and turn in the sun and spread its arms and bask in the joys of being an oak tree in Iowa."
Or, on teaching high-school:
"Those grown children had, almost all of them, bent their heads over whatever work she gave them, even though their bodies were awkward and restless with the onset of adulthood, fate creeping through their veins and glands and follicles like a subtle poison, making them images of their parents and strangers to themselves."
Good language is a window into the world, our wonderful and wild and grace-imbued world. Go out and enjoy some today.
