Parakeet

'What in the world are you going to write about today Ryan? How about for a hundred days combined?'

These questions bounced across my brain today, and made little contact between my ears with anything sensible. Writing for a 100 days on a novel, or in a journal, is one thing. Writing for other people to see is another beast altogether. I certainly don't want to write nonsense, or repetitious, self-aware writing about writing crap again. I'm not going to chat with the wide world for a third of a year.

So do I center myself around a theme?
Do I write several series?
Do I serialize a story?
Do I just get up and write nonsense and whatever the bell is on top of my head?

Well, as much as the last option is probably unavoidable, I landed on something. It came from second Peter--that tiny book near the back of the Bible. Peter tells his readers that he is reminding them about things they already know and get. But Peter is still going to take every chance he has to remind them, until he dies. No opportunity missed to encourage, reinforce, remind, exhort. Again and again.

So I'm going to write about what is so important to me that I can't leave it unsaid. And I'm going to say it over and over and over, and not care too much if I sound like a dumb parakeet. I'll try to say it different ways, but sometimes I'll lack the creativity. And then I'll just be okay with that. The apostle Peter was okay with wild repetition, and so will I.

This means I will mostly write about the Gospel. But the Gospel effects every area of life, so there's a lot to write about. Lots of experiences, in trying to live the Gospel out, and succeeding or failing to do so. And many subjects the Gospel interacts with and transforms: the imagination, story telling, love, gardening, maybe even politics.

So don't mind my squawking. I'm bound to keep this racket up for some time.
