I have always read the book of Job primarily as book that offers an explanation for suffering. I was struggling to make sense of Job while trying to read it this way recently. Then I came across the following quote, which gave me a new and very helpful framework through which to read Job.
"It is generally held that the primary purpose of the book of is to explain why God's people suffer or why the righteous suffer. Though there are lessons in the book about suffering, it is a mistake to read the book as an explanation for that. Strictly speaking, the book explains only why Job suffered. We, the readers know from the prologue that he was the wisest man on earth and as such was selected as an object of Satan's attack. He was the test case for divine wisdom.
The central purpose of the book of Job is to give a practical demonstration of the value of divine wisdom. "
