I cannot help but think of death when I first saw this photo; it seems to speak a secret language which conveys a sense of silence and awe. The lightness of fur and the heaviness of bones strike a sharp contrast, a discordant coordination which makes me picture a soul clinging to earth when it should be drifting to Heaven. It must be a special desire which weighs the soul so much that it refuses to go when it is supposed to. And it is this insistence, I suppose, which entwines the fur and the bones in such a way that the gesture of death is not laden with sadness and sorrow. I believe it takes an equally special desire of a photographer to compose and to capture this scene, and I wonder what went through the photographer’s mind at the moment he pressed the shutter.
ReplyDeleteWell, certainly not all that. It was a striking scene, for sure. When I stumbled upon the carcass, I found it disgusting, and yet fascinating, a striking reminder of death amid a beautiful and peaceful prairie. Thanks for the comment, I'm glad it captivated you.
