I am also going to live forever. It's good to remember both.
Birthdays remind one of the brevity of life and the seriousness of living. Another year is, after all, one less year to left. Birthdays and such markers present good opportunities for self-examination, evaluation, and resolution. But birthdays should remind us to pursue life not only because it is short, but because it is also very long. We will live forever.
And for those who trusts in Jesus this is wonderful news. The chronology of life serves to remind the Christian both of all the grace that has already come, and all that which will still come. The believer, however, lives two lives and has two birthdays. I don't know when my second birthday is, but I will find out when these days I now celebrate come to an end. And I will celebrate that birthday for all eternity.
I will celebrate the day our Father qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light, having delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:12-14).
